At meeting in Douala: MBECUDA raises funds for youth socio-economic dev’t.

Sons and daughters of Mbembe tribe in Ako Subdivision, Donga Mantung  Division of the North West Region, grouped under the Mbembe Cultural and Development Association, MBECUDA, have raised funds to be used for the socio-economic empowerment of young people in the area.

This was during a fundraising organised in Douala recently, with the objective to construct a vocational training center in Ako Subdivision.

This initiative holds the promise of empowering youths by equipping them with technical skills essential for their future sustenance.

The dire socio-economic repercussions of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions, leading to increased school dropouts among the youth, served as a catalyst for this transformative project.

The envisioned vocational training center seeks to provide a platform for young individuals to acquire practical skills, enabling them to secure their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The national gathering witnessed a remarkable turnout of sons and daughters of Ako from across the country, underscoring the unity and solidarity driving this initiative.

Speaking at the fundraising, the President of the MBECUDA Douala branch, Sampson Nkeyi, highlighted the pivotal role of the vocational training centre in providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth.

“This will help open a vocational training centre for our children didn’t have the privilege to further their studies,” he said.

To him, establishing the vocational training centre represents a significant step towards sustainable development and empowerment in Ako and beyond.

Annouces setting up of credit union

According to Nkeyi, the construction of the vocational training center is not the sole purpose of their gathering as they equally intend to set up a cooperative credit union for the Mbembe people in order to boost the Mbembe economy.

“We have as objective setting up a cooperative credit union for the Mbembe people in order to boost their economic activities. It will permit them to asily get loans to invest their business” the MBECUDA Douala branch president said.

In other words, the broader objective of establishing a cooperative credit union for the Mbembe people aims to stimulate economic growth by facilitating access to financial resources for entrepreneurial ventures.

Optimism for the future

The Mayor of Ako, Nkanya Nkwain, who was present at the event, expressed profound optimism and support for the initiative. He recognised the transformative potential of youth-led initiatives in promoting peace and sustainable development.

“When we have a huge number of young people who decide to come together to talk peace, growth and local initiatives to foster development in their municipality, it is something we should be proud of,” Mayor Nkanya said.

He added that: “So, the least we can do is to encourage them harness the energy that they show forth so as to achieve long lasting peace and development that is highly soughted in the subdivision”.

To him, the overwhelming response from the community reflects a shared commitment to nurturing a conducive environment for growth and progress.

Enthusiasm, hope for brighter tomorrow

The enthusiasm and endorsement from individuals like Nseka Anatole, a former Junior Senator of the Donga-Mantung Division, underscore the profound impact the vocational training center is poised to have on the community.

“By instilling hope and fostering skill development, the project promises to usher in a new era of opportunity and prosperity for the youth and the broader Mbembe community,” he said.

Apart from the fundraising, the executive committee of MBECUDA organised a football match for the Mbembe youth.

The highly attended event which witnessed the presence of administrative authorities and traditional leaders, emphasised the significance of the project in fostering reconstruction and development in Ako.
