At council session: Tiko Mayor attributes record revenue increase to fear of God.

Administrative authorities at council session

The Mayor of Tiko Council, HRM Peter Ikome Mesoso III, has attributed the remarkable 8% increase in revenue to the fear of God among the council workers.

The municipal authority made the declaration during the 2023 Administrative, Management, and Stores Management Accounts session of the Council.

The session, held at the council banquet hall of the council Friday April 5, was attended by the Supervisory Authority of Councils in Fako Division, Senior Divisional Officer of Fako, Viang Mekala Engelbert, and the Divisional Officer of Tiko Subdivision, Voh Armstrong.

Speaking to the press after chairing the session, Mayor Mesoso emphasised the significance of having God-fearing individuals in positions of authority.

"When you have God-fearing people at the helm of an institution where revenue is generated, it is obvious that you will realise what is generated. But when you put people who are not God-fearing, even if income is generated, it will be looted," he stated.

Mayor Mesoso took the opportunity to congratulate Viang Mekala Engelbert, the new Senior Divisional Officer of Fako on his first council session with the Tiko municipality, welcoming him warmly.

The primary agenda of the session was the deliberation and adoption of the 2023 Administrative, Management, and Stores Management Accounts, along with the election of a pro-term chairperson and the presentation of committee reports from six major Committees.

Highlighting major projects realised by the Council in 2023, Mayor Mesoso mentioned initiatives such as the Mutengene water project, the tarring of Buea Road to Bingo junction, equipping of Mutengene Health Centre, rehabilitation of Likumba Bridge, and the Youth Empowerment Centre

However, Mayor Mesoso also stressed the importance of community responsibility in maintaining these projects.

He urged the population to utilise these facilities judiciously, emphasising that projects are executed with significant investment and must be respected to prevent their deterioration.

"When we do projects we hand them to the community. It is also for them to use it carefully. At times we spend over 50 million FCFA to execute a project and the people use it with disregard. By the time you know the project has crashed," the Mayor stressed.

Mayor Mesoso also called on the population to actively participate in the decisions regarding the town's management. He advocated citizen consultation and Budget Orientation Debates as essential tools for improving governance and community engagement.
