Fako: SDO, Mayor call for calm amidst chief's torture over road opening in Tiko.

Fako SDO, Tiko Mayor, Tiko DO at crisis meeting

The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Fako, Viang Mekala, and the Mayor of Tiko, HRM Peter Ikome Mesoso III, have called for calm following the torture of a traditional ruler over a road opening project on April 14.

The traditional ruler was tortured in Boganjo, a village in Tiko Subdivision, Fako Division of the South West Region.

Viang Mekala swiftly responded after a visit to the said village the following day. During his visit, he called for calm amidst the turmoil that followed the chief's torture and molestation.

Chief Litaque Mowanga Mbua bore the brunt of a vigilante group in Mutengene. He is allegedly accused of facilitating the displacement of bulldozers for a road opening project in Boganjo.

Amidst the chaos, the SDO, in a bid to quell escalating tensions, in a crisis meeting held with some locals of the Boganjo village, emphasised the paramount importance of development for the South West Region in general and Fako Division in particular.

"Do you want development or not?" Fako SDO questioned during the meeting.

"The first step towards development is a road. When a road passes, development follows," he asserted, highlighting the necessity of infrastructure for progress.

Further clarity was provided by Mayor of Tiko, Ikome Mesoso III, who clarified that the road project in question was under the jurisdiction of the Tiko municipal council.

Refuting accusations against Chief Litaque Mbua and addressing concerns, Mayor Mesoso III stressed that Chief Litaque was merely a victim of circumstance.

"The bulldozer was from the council, and the project is being carried out by the Tiko municipal council," Mayor Mesoso III affirmed.

"It is an existing road. We just had to treat the road and expand it," he added, dispelling misconceptions surrounding the project.

Highlighting the road's significance, Mayor Mesoso III elucidated that it served as a vital artery for market access, rather than exclusively leading Boganjo village.

He went further to urge the populace to maintain composure and allow the project to proceed unhindered. Amidst the turmoil, Chief Litaque received urgent medical attention at the Buea Regional Hospital.
