The United Nation World Food Programme, WFP, in Cameroon has said it has already assisted 90,000 people financially, distributing a whopping 651 million FCFA in aid to the flood-ravaged Far North Region.

According to WFP, the organisation is not stopping there - its sights are set on reaching a total of 100,000 people by December 2024.

WFP is helping victims in areas such as Blangoua, Goulfey, Kousseri, Logone Birni, Makary, Zina in the Logone and Chari Division and those in Maga, Vele, Kai-Kai, Yagoua Subdivisions in the Mayo Danay Division.

The floods have left a trail of destruction, displacing over 356,000 people, reducing more than 56,000 homes to rubble, and submerging 82,000 hectares of farmland. But the WFP is fighting back, working tirelessly to support climate-smart farming, income-generating activities, and crop storage. It is helping families diversify their livelihoods, preparing them for future floods.

The humanitarian organisation is also working hand-in-hand with local authorities to rebuild food systems, assist farmers, and promote better nutrition in the flood-affected areas. According to WFP officials, more funding is needed to reach more affected persons all over the region.
