Cross section of local authorities, councillors immortalise session

Mamfe Council in Manyu Division of the South West Region, has adopted the sum of 1.8 billion FCFA as budget to boost local development across the municipality in 2025.

The budget was adopted by municipal councillors after deliberating on the development action plan to continue making the municipality “The Gateway to Prosperity”.

This was during the Second Ordinary Session of the Council last December 30, 2024, held at the council chambers. It was chaired by the Mayor of Mamfe Council, Robertson Tabenchong Ashu.

Local administrative authorities led by the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Manyu, Awoungfack Alienou Yves Bertrand, the Member of Parliament of the area among others, sat through the session.

Addressing councillors during the session, Mayor Robertson Tabenchong Ashu, said the one billion eight hundred million (1,800,000,000) FCFA budget, witnessed a 10.2% increase compared to the one billion six hundred and thirty-three million (1,633,000,000) FCFA in 2024.

Mayor Tabenchong urged councillors not to be overtaken by fear as the council “is still on its rails to carry out more projects” in 2025.

“All statutory parameters and budgetary principles have been fully respected in the elaboration of this budget. The stipulated quota of 60% for the running expenses and 40% for investment have also been carefully respected as follows,” Tabenchong explained.

He detailed that recurrent expenditure will take 26.06% of the budget, 71.94% allocated for investment expenditure while personnel expenses will constitute 34.3%.

Tabenchong told councillors that with the combined efforts of all and sundry, the council will “attain the best results for the 2025 budget”.

He sounded upbeat that with the “return of calm and serenity after many years of instability, revenue collection and execution of projects will be easy to be accomplished”.

He called for collective efforts of all to promote peace and development in the municipality for a better tomorrow while continue efforts to eliminate all forms of violence and harmful practices from the municipality.

While saluting the efforts of all stakeholders for return to peace in the municipality, the mayor assured that such efforts will never be relented.

The municipal authority challenged councillors to shun their differences and work hard in order to leave a legacy with projects that better the living conditions of inhabitants.

“Dear colleagues, honorable Councillors, we are a team and our duty is to give life and comfort to our citizens. If we win, credit goes to all of us not the mayor alone and vice versa,” the mayor said.

He saluted the administration for standing by the council, noting that such support paved the way for the successful execution of the 2024 budget, at over 70%.

On projects earmarked for the 2025 fiscal year, Mayor Tabenchong mentioned the plans to supply 20 sets of office equipment to schools, rehabilitation of some schools, construction of Community Hut in Mamfe.

He also talked of plans to rehabilitate communal roads between Satom Bridge to Eshobi, rehabilitation of road using pavers in Mamfe town, acquisition of a 20-ton dump truck.

The mayor also mentioned supply of medical equipment and medication to the Urban Integrated Health Centre and the rehabilitation of the health facility, construction of three blocks of stores at the Mamfe Main Market.
