To meet up with Int’l standards: Gymnastics federation to upgrade skills of judges, coaches.

President CAMERGYM, Annie-Flore Yekel talking to the press

The Cameroon Gymnastics Federation, CAMERGYM, has announced plans to organise a training workshop to upgrade the skills of judges and coaches in the country.

The judges and coaches will be lectured on the new rules of gymnastics in accordance with the laws set by the International Gymnastics Federation.

The announcement was made by the President of CAMERGYM, Annie-Flore Yekel.

She was speaking in a recent interview with the State broadcaster.

According to Yekel, the training session which will take place in Yaounde on February 1st and 2nd 2025, has as objectives to prepare the country’s gymnastic judges and trainers to update their knowledge and skills with regards to new techniques and passing judgment.

She pointed out that at the international level, and also at the level of the African gymnastic union, the rules keep changing because of new Olympiads hence the need for the training.

“This training is for our judges and coaches to update themselves on the new rules that have been put in place by the International Gymnastics Federation. This so that they can be equipped with skills that will enable them take part in international competitions as well as become international judges,” Annie-Flore Yekel stated.

It is worth mentioning that the workshop comes weeks after CAMERGYM President Annie Flore Yekel, took part in the Elective General Assembly of the African Gymnastics Union, AGU in Cairo, Egypt, in December 2024.

It emerged from the General Assembly that Cameroon will host the 19th African Artistic Gymnastics Championships for juniors and seniors.

It is the second time CAMERGYM is organising a training workshop for trainers in months.

The first ever workshop was organised in October 2024 in Yaounde. At the maiden workshop, the President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, commended efforts being made by CAMERGYM in promoting gymnastics.

He said in the Olympic Games there are two major sports; gymnastics and swimming.

Kalkaba Malboum further tasked CAMERGYM with ensuring that more Cameroonian gymnasts qualify and take part in international competitions.
