Mbarga Nguele reveals 385,000 ID cards abandoned at police stations!.

The Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, has revealed that over 385,000 National Identity Cards, NIC, have been abandoned in police units across the country within 11 years. He made the announcement in Yaounde Friday, January 31.

This was during a ceremony for him to receive New Year wishes from his collaborators. 

While revealing that work on the 48-hour production of identity cards will begin February 17, Mbarga Nguele, said: “Regrettable 385,000 valid NIC have been abandoned at police identification post for 11 years”.

He called on all the owners of the cards to go to the various police identification posts where they enrolled to collect the vital document. Mbarga Nguele said this will also benefit those seeking to enrol on the electoral register.

According to Martin Mbarga Nguele, if the owners of collect the document, most people within the voting age bracket would become part of the country’s electoral process.

“This means that no one of voting age can claim not to have been registered on the electoral poll for lack of Identity Card,” the police boss stated. 

The announcement by the Delegate General, it should be said, comes amid nationwide complaints from citizens who have not been able to receive their NIC.

Recently, over 500 citizens facing difficulties with obtaining their NIC in the Centre Region addressed a complaint to the police boss.

In the meantime, he had in a release issued on January 10 this year instructed citizens with double identity to complain at the appropriate police offices for the situation to the addressed.

To note that on December 31, 2024, the Head of State, President Paul Biya, announced that he had instructed the police boss to address the recurrent challenges plaguing the production of the National Identity Card.
