Tchiroma warns: Population won’t recognise falsified results.

Issa Tchiroma Bakary, FSNC presidential candidate

Issa Tchiroma Bakary, candidate of the Cameroon National Salvation Front, FSNC, party, in the October 12 presidential election, has once again warned Cameroonians won’t recognised “falsified results” from the Constitutional Council.

Tchiroma, who has since Monday October 13, been claiming victory in the election, made the fresh declaration yesterday.

In a message in which he described as an address to the nation and citizens across the world, he maintained that all facts point to him being the “legitimate and legal” winner of the election.

On the basis of what he described as irrefutable facts, Tchiroma declared that, he is “waiting on the outgoing President” to call and congratulate him for having won over 50 percent of votes cast.

“After compiling the reports from the polling stations and verifying the representations on the ground, it is evident that we have secured a landslide victory, surpassing 50% of the ballots cast,” the FSNC candidate noted.

The scores at his disposal, Tchiroma claimed, warrants “courage and humility” from the incumbent Head of State to accept defeat. “…In the name of democracy and custom, he must call the winner, congratulate them, and offer to organise a smooth transition,” he added.

Such a move, the former minister mooted, “…will save Cameroon from the upheavals and convulsions that could result from an imposed and unprepared transition”.

He added that through social media platforms by opening up for transition, “…the whole of humanity would recognise him [Biya] as a man of peace, concerned with leaving a legacy that would be cited as an example to future generations. Alas, it seems this is not your predisposition”.

Reiterating the need for peace, Tchiroma argued that pursuant to Article 113 of the Electoral Code, his team has announced figures of the election. He enthused that the figures of votes cast in his favour show he enjoys popular support from citizens to lead the nation.

“…if the Constitutional Council proclaims falsified and truncated results, it will be complicit in the bridge of trust. The vast majority of the Cameroonian people will never accept the Council’s validation of this historic scale of ballot box stuffing which has been brought to the attention of the world,” Tchiroma noted.

“The people will take their destiny into their hands…”.

According to Tchiroma, the turn of events since election day, point to the people being ready to take their destiny into their hands. He said Cameroonians will not stand for fraud, insisting that they “…are determined to fight against a regime that is deaf to their suffering and difficulties, face with the turmoil of an uncertain future”.

He insisted that: “Faced with their backs against the wall, the people have no choice but to take their destiny into their hands and seek victory wherever they can find it”.

Neigbours, international community on call for help

He revealed that his message that appeals to the international community and Cameroon’s neigbours, have met with a reply that warrants actions from within. “…we have called on the international community to bear witness. We have called on our neighbouring countries to bear us witness…they have responded that no one will come and do your work for you,” Tchiroma disclosed yesterday.

He noted that, it “… is up to each of us to search deep within ourselves to unleash our inner strength, courage and sense of purpose.  After all, as the saying goes, there is no dignity is waiting for others to do everything for you”.

The FSNC leader declared that elsewhere, others who have found themselves in similar situations have done “what was necessary” and have changed the course of the history of their countries.

‘What is happening not inevitable’

Recalling the rich human resource of the country globally, Tchiroma drummed unity. This he said, is needed to “show the world that what has happened/is happening to us is not inevitable”. He asked every citizen to be ready to “take up this challenge”.

He assured his followers that beyond protecting the common values of the nation, “we will march and protest together” for “the long hold if necessary”. Tchiroma added that “through unity, we will overcome this predatory oligarchy that has confiscated our freedoms and reduced us to poverty and despair”.

The longtime Biya supporter-turned challenger, assured that under his leadership, citizens will “break free” from what he said is intimidation and the fear they have been yoked under for decades.

He accused the government of working to distabilise the Union for Change that is powering his candidature.

The erstwhile communication minister reiterated his commitment to stand with the population. The battle ahead, he declared, “will only end with the restoration of our victory”.

Citing the teacher, Zouhaira, killed in the course of protest in Garoua on Tuesday October 21, Tchiroma said, “was assassinated”. He said the incident will serve as a motivation for him to fight to defend the victory of the people.
