Minister, Nestlé discuss safety of company’s products.

Dr Manaouda Malachie in tête-à-tête with Nestle’s Aboubacar Coulibaly

The Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie, and the Managing Director, MD, of Nestle Cameroon, Aboubacar Coulibaly have discussed the safety of the company’s products. 

This was during a meeting, Thursday, November 6 in Yaounde.



Both officials are said to have focused on product quality, traceability, sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR.

During the discussions, the Nestlé team is said to have showcased the company’s commitment to sustainable industrial practices. 

The team highlighted the Bonaberi factory, which boasts an annual production capacity of 40,000 tonnes and serves as a model of industrial efficiency. 

According to Coulibaly, the facility fully integrates principles of sustainable development and has already achieved “zero waste in nature”. 

This, the Coulibaly-led team said, underscored Nestlé’s determination to minimise its environmental footprint and promote a cleaner, safer environment.

Coulibaly is also said to have remarked that the quality of Nestlé’s products are top with priority on upholding standards. 

He is said to have told the minister that, every product which leaves the factory, is accompanied by a certificate of conformity.

Coulibaly added that, there is also a system of traceability which allows each batch of products to be tracked from production through to distribution. 

The company, he said also maintains a retention stock to enable post-production control and ensure swift action in case of any quality alert.

 

Recommits to safety standards

Addressing recent public concerns over product compliance, the Nestlé officials assured the Minister of the company’s readiness to collaborate fully with authorities to ensure consumer safety.

He is also said to have reiterated the company’s commitment to transparency through the toll-free number 8535, available for consumer complaints and suggestions.

On his part, Dr Manaouda Malachie lauded Nestlé’s republican attitude and rigour in addressing health and quality issues. He reaffirmed the government’s openness to work with private partners who share its commitment to protecting public health. 

The minister encouraged Nestlé to further strengthen its social responsibility efforts through free health screenings and community health education campaigns.

Dr Manaouda also seized the opportunity to remind the delegation that breastfeeding remains the best form of nutrition for infants. He called on Nestlé to continue supporting awareness campaigns that promote exclusive breastfeeding.

Both parties at the end of the meeting pledged to jointly review past actions and incidents to identify areas for improvement and reinforce preventive mechanisms. 

According to the Ministry of Public Health, the review aims to strike a balance between industrial performance and the protection of consumers’ health.
