The Agroecology Network for the promotion of the sustainability of food systems in West and Central Africa, RADiUS, which is being implemented in the country by the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development, IRAD, has launched a drive for a national agroecology legal and institutional framework.

The call came during a coordination and consultation meeting, which was held in Yaounde on November 14, 2025. The meeting was aimed at developing a consensual roadmap for Cameroon’s agroecology strategy.

The event brought together representatives from sectoral administrations, Non-Governmental Organisations, farmers’ organisations and civil society.

The session focused on reviewing the terms of reference for drafting the national agroecology strategy roadmap and defining the role of the consultant who will steer the technical process.

Discussions during the meeting were chaired by the Director of Professional Agricultural Organisations and Support to Agricultural Producers, DOPA, at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, MINADER, Simon Alain Messi.

As part of deliberations, participants reviewed draft documents relating to the agroecology roadmap and made recommendations aimed at improving the working texts.

It emerged from the meeting that the push for a legal framework is part of RADiUS’s component on “Communication, advocacy and development of a legal and institutional framework for agroecological transition in Cameroon”.

According to project coordination details, RADiUS Cameroon is preparing for the official launch of activities nationwide in the coming months.

The project’s focal point is Dr Eunice Ndo, who also serves as Head of the Mbalmayo Agricultural Research Centre.

The Yaounde session followed the submission to Parliament on November 10, of a draft law regulating the production of organic food in Cameroon.

The proposed legislation seeks to establish a legal basis governing the production of organic food intended for human and animal consumption.

The RADiUS initiative is financed by the European Union and coordinated by the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development, CORAF.

The project aims to generalise agroecology practices in Cameroon and support agropastoral production that aligns with environmental standards.
