The Bamendankwe Development and Cultural Association, BAMEDCA, has taken landmark resolutions aimed at fast-tracking socioeconomic and cultural development of Bamendankwe in Bamenda I Subdivision, Mezam Division of the North West Region.

This was during the annual General Assembly of the association, which took place on December 27, 2025 at the Bamendankwe Multipurpose Centre Hall.

It was chaired by the President General of BAMEDCA, Ndifor Richard Manjong, in the presence of the traditional ruler of Bamendankwe, Fon Forchesiri III; the First Deputy Mayor of Bamenda I Council, notables and elders of Bamendankwe, members of the BAMEDCA National Executive, presidents and members of branches and chapters both home and abroad, and the Bamendankwe people in general.

In his opening address at the General Assembly, BAMEDCA President General, Ndifor Richard, recalled when him and his executive team took office in early 2025, they inherited the Bamendankwe Community Multipurpose Centre project at a stage where only the basement had been completed.

“Within this year, through collective effort and sacrifice, we have been able to deck the basement, raise the walls of the ground floor, and complete the decking of the ground floor. These are not small achievements. They are visible signs that, even in difficult times, unity and determination can move our community forward,” he said.

He added that: “Beyond infrastructure, we have taken steps to strengthen our community organisation. We initiated a headcount of Bamendankwe people wherever they may be in the world, and we have developed a digital application to support this process. This initiative is not about numbers alone; it is about reconnecting our people, planning better, and preparing BAMEDCA for the future”.

Ndifor also disclosed that he made it a priority to visit several branches and quarters within the village and these visits have helped him to listen, understand concerns directly, and to remind himself that leadership is most effective when it remains close to the people.

Concerning difficulties faced, Ndifor said: “We had set ourselves a bold target of raising 200 million FCFA through Operation 10K. Unfortunately, we have so far been able to raise only about 6 million FCFA. This shortfall has been discouraging, but it is also a lesson”.

“One of the major challenges has been the limited collaboration from some branch presidents and chapters in driving this initiative. In addition, traditional institutions and some quarters have shown little interest in enforcing the payment of levies, which has affected our capacity to mobilise resources effectively,” he regretted.

Nonetheless, he stated that the challenges notwithstanding, many sons and daughters of Bamendankwe have shown remarkable generosity, donating hugely towards the construction of the Multipurpose Community Centre.

Ndifor stated that the association remains fully committed to completing the Community Multipurpose Centre within three years.

“I intend to seek donor funding for food security initiatives, organise a Bamendankwe Youth Conference in 2026, work closely with His Majesty the Fon to address the farmer-grazer problem, and collaborate with diaspora chapters to improve access to water in several neighbourhoods,” he said.

Landmark resolutions

Meanwhile, after deliberating lengthily during the Assembly, BAMEDCA unanimously took momentous resolutions towards bettering the welfare of Bamendankwe.

In the resolutions, all Chapter, Branch, and Quarter Executives were reminded of their obligation to ensure the effective collection of BAMEDCA statutory dues and the Operation 10K Project contributions from their members.

The assembly also resolved that the Bamendankwe Community Multipurpose Centre Project shall take precedence over any other project at Chapter, Branch, or Quarter levels until substantial progress is achieved.

To ensure strict compliance, the Assembly mandated a Control Team to monitor village activities on a weekly basis. This monitoring shall cover events such as funerals, death celebrations, marriages, libations, and related ceremonies.

The Assembly appealed to traditional institutions, including the ‘Kwifor’ and the Traditional Council, to support and oversee the strict implementation of these measures in the interest of community development.

A Fundraising Committee for the Community Multipurpose Centre Project was constituted and mandated by the Assembly. The Committee shall be co-chaired by Mbigha Pius and Flannery Tangang. It was also resolved that fundraising activities shall be organised at branch and chapter levels, culminating in a Grand Village Fundraising. Limbe Branch was nominated to pioneer this initiative.

To avoid future discrepancies, the Assembly resolved that all payments by Quarter Heads must be made strictly in the name of their respective Quarters and not in individual names.

Quarters and Branches were instructed to submit comprehensive annual financial reports to the Financial Secretary each October. The Financial Secretary was further advised to exercise greater diligence by tracking financial transactions throughout the year and preparing annual accounts in a timely and systematic manner.

The Assembly resolved that BAMEDCA Membership Cards shall henceforth be valued at 12,500 FCFA and shall be issued only upon full payment of this amount.

Meanwhile, the proposed budget for the association in the 2026 financial year was examined and adopted at 104,020,000 FCFA.

Fon calls for collective efforts

Speaking at the Assembly, the traditional ruler of Bamendankwe, HRM Fon Forchesiri III, called on all sons and daughters of the village at home and abroad to put hands on deck for the development of the village. He also called for peace, harmony and social cohesion.
