Bar president outlines modalities for pupilage entrance exam.

Mbah Eric Mbah, Esq, Bar President

The President of the Cameroon Bar Council, Barrister Mbah Eric Mbah, has unveiled modalities for the Bar I Pupilage examination.

In a note, he said the modalities followed publication of Order No. 021/DPJ/SG/MJ of February 12, 2026, in which the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso, launched the said examination.

Barrister Mbah chaired a Bar Council meeting on February 13, 2026, during which modalities governing the application process were adopted.

He indicated that the Bar Council resolved that the entrance fee is 50,000 FCFA. Barrister Mbah said the amount covers the supplementary costs related to the organisation of the examination and a preparatory seminar to be organised ahead of the exam.

He directed candidates to pay the said fee into the Bank account of the Council. Barrister Mbah indicated that candidates must attach the receipt of deposit of the fee to their file for the exams.

On sponsorship letter requirements, the Bar President clarified that each candidate shall submit a letter duly signed on the official letterhead of the sponsoring law firm.

Such a letter, he indicated, must contain details such as; the stamp of the law firm, the sponsor´s name stamp bearing his/her matricule, date of call to the Bar, phone number; and email address.

In addition to the sponsorship letter, Barrister Mbah also said candidates must provide an attestation of non-indebtedness of their sponsor issued by the Bar Treasurer.

He also stated that the Bar will also seek the location plan law firms sponsoring candidates, list of advocates and advocates-in-training alongside their phone numbers and email addresses.

Beyond the requirements, he further stated that, all documents must be duly approved by either the Bar President’s Representative, the Special Delegate, or the Head of the Commission established for the purpose.

Aspiring candidates, he noted, must add an attestation of existence of chambers also okayed by the same officials.

On limitation of sponsorship, the Bar President clarified that given that sponsorship extends from the issuance of the letter throughout training, no advocate shall sign sponsorship letters for more than three candidates.

Law firms, he further specified, must not also issue sponsorship letters to more than six pupil lawyers. He warned that failure to comply with the requirements shall render sponsorship letters invalid and result in the rejection of files.

On submission, the Bar President announced that candidates from the Northern Regions shall deposit their application files in Garoua at the office of the Bar President´s Representative.

Candidates from all other Regions, he stated, shall deposit their files at the Bar Head Office in Yaounde, per a calendar to be communicated subsequently.
