Celebrated Ophthalmologist, Dr Ebongo Zachs Nanje, has offered a generator and a huge consignment of didactics to Government Bilingual High School, GBHS, Ekondo-Titi, in Ndian Division of the South West Region, to boost learning.

Dr Ebongo, who is Director of Family Health in the Ministry of Public Health, made the donations in Kumba, Saturday March 21, 2026.

This was during a gathering to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the third batch of the school. The batch, christened: “Noble Queens and Kings,” was of the batch of 1985.

The event was within the ambits of Government Bilingual High School, GBHS, Ekondo-Titi Ex-students’ Association, ETEXSA. Dr Ebongo Zachs made the gesture in his capacity of the National President of EXTEXSA.

The renowned medic, who traced his early academic trajectory to GBHS Ekondo-Titi, handed the generator and didactics to the Principal, Pauline Yoti Ambang.

Despite graduating from the institution decades back, Dr Ebongo, in his widely-saluted community engagement drive, told the audience that the gesture is a form of ‘Thank You”.

Dr Ebongo said the generator will power the school and make it easy for students to acquire knowledge on Information and Communication Technologies, ICTs, ease the work of school administrators and support the functioning of offices vital for the community.

On the didactics, he said underprivileged children will benefit to better prepare for a better tomorrow. Teachers, he also said, will benefit from the materials, which he said, would serve the school beyond the current school year.

He credited the State for having set up the institution, and praised those who molded him and others still serving in the institution.

According to Dr Ebongo, "…there's no other way to say Thank You, to the government, for having created the school that has been responsible in shaping our minds and careers, wherever we are today as ex-students”.

Situating the context of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions that weakened the school, the globally-acclaimed medic, stated that it is time for GBHS Ekondo-Titi to bounce back.

Dr Ebongo expressed joy that enrollment has increased from barely 70 students to over 300 amid hurdles. He praised the current school administration for the strides made so far.

He used the event to appeal to all ex-students to play their part in supporting the school to remain a veritable citable of learning. Dr Ebongo stressed the need for unity to help build back the school and renovate some of its structures.

‘He’s rescued us from darkness’

Speaking during the ceremony, the Principal of GBHS Ekondo-Titi, Yoti Ambang, thanked Dr Ebongo for stepping in with the support at the much-needed and appropriate time. Yoti said the award-winning medic has rescued the school from perpetual darkness.

Ambang said the generator and didactics will ease teaching, learning processes and the administration of the institution. Ambang also promised to ensure the consignment from the benefactor is properly put to use.

The Principal revisited the horror that struck the institution, when gunmen attacked, killing learners and a tutor. Ambang appealed to former students to sustain support to ensure what was destroyed is rebuild.
