Envisaged Vice Presidency Post: Why not give youthful, private sector personality a chance?.

President Paul Biya: Make Cameroonians dream again!

The Head of State, Paul Biya, has since his inaugural address on November 6, 2025, put the nation in expectant mood. That was when he announced the introduction of bills in Parliament to address the nation’s challenges.

With Parliament in session since March 10, 2026, and the polity heating up about the possible reintroduction of the Post of Vice President, observers are adding to the imminent change the need for a complete shift.

Pundits have begun arguing that should the President table a bill in Parliament, reintroducing the post of Vice President at this critical moment in the country, it must come with an out-of-the-box approach to put things in order.

Given that in 43 years the President has worked with mostly men groomed within the establishment, there are those who are sharing the opinion that to surmount today’s pressing challenges and realign Cameroon, Biya should go for a youthful private sector leader as his Vice President.

With the President himself having repeatedly cited pressing youth needs for opportunities, access to basic social services and a complete rejuvenation in policies, analysts say the private sector stands the best chance to help him build something new that would take Cameroon to emergence in 2035.

Based on the assertiveness and dexterity required to establish and enjoy success in the private sector, President Biya, some are saying, should go for a far younger citizen, with proven worth, integrity, cloud and knowhow to reimagine several things about the country.

Biya’s experience and wisdom, they are saying, can best materialise in vision at all levels of society, if he goes for a visionary and youthful Vice President from the private sector.

They say the President should go for a person with the loyalty, trust, energy and capacity to stimulate nation cohesion, outline a new economic blueprint and marshal institutional renewal.

Youth, women focus & need for rare VP choice

President Biya’s declaration of intent to make youths and women priority in his current mandate, analysts are arguing and rightly so, requires a rethink of who becomes Vice President.

Matching government policy with private sector needs to expand opportunities for women and youth, some say, can best be realised with betting on a Vice President who has excelled in the private sector and making a difference within and without Cameroon.

Given the challenges facing the nation, critics say the country needs a Vice President whose curriculum vitae is laced with data that speaks and not empty rhetoric.

In this light, President Biya, they are saying, should go for a private sector leader with the depth that bridges educational reforms and labour market needs, global financial dynamics, improving supply and value chains to accelerate all-round growth.

Observers are unanimous that at a time Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, SMEs and entrepreneurship have become key drivers of competitiveness, shopping for a Vice President from the private sector who has shown his acumen, will be a major achievement in the President’s present mandate.

Cutting cost, achieving Presidential goals

Another issue which makes drafting in a youthful compatriot from the private sector to support Biya fully realise his lofty projects for the nation is that of cutting cost and achieving goals.

To reform governance and cut cost is something the Biya regime has battled with for years unsuccessfully. With the new commitment to reduce public expenditure, a young and vibrant Vice President from the private sector, observers are saying, will make real rigour, instil restraint and power efficiency in service delivery.

A Vice President chosen from the private sector, analysts are projecting, will block excessive leakages at the treasury, ensure every franc is accounted for and improve investments in public services.

Need for credibility to drive reform acceptance

Beaming the search light on the private sector to get a young and results-driven Vice President, pundits add, would translate to bringing on board a veritable credible partner to market much needed reforms.

To fit in the vacuum of what many believe will usher in a new lease of life, Biya, some are positing, should go for a credible private sector leader with proven believability that will make reforms accepted nationally and internationally.

Private sector diplomacy, dynamism

A Vice President from the private sector, those who subscribed to such drift, say will come with added flare, dynamism and intelligence to deal with the country’s sociopolitical hurdles.

In this light, the Anglophone Problem and crisis in the English-speaking Regions and challenges in the eight other Regions of the country, are begging for a private sector personality with matchless shrewdness.

He/she, those picturing Cameroon’s future are positing, must also possess the unique lenses and brainpower to address issues beyond religious, linguistic, tribal, regional, political lines and other stratifications, driving dialogue and unity in the process.

Today’s Cameroon’s, analysts say, needs an immediate assistant to Biya who can reinforce the nation’s goals, shrink doubt and prioritise the nation’s good.  The private sector for many, is where to turn to now.

A youthful private sector personality who has navigated the hurdles of building and succeeding, political analysts are saying, would leverage on the Vice Presidency post to reinvent across-the-board engagements and produce new partnerships and alliances to build the country.
