After 12 years of waiting, the East Regional capital, Bertoua, now glows with a modern Town Hall, worthy of the name. This is thanks to the relentless effort of the Special Council Support Fund, FEICOM, that never gave up on pumping money into the grandiose project.

While inaugurating the edifice last week, the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, MINDDEVEL, Georges Elanga Obam, said the journey to the completion and inauguration of the project was long and tedious.

He said justifying why he had to travel to Bertoua with a string of dignitaries, including serving members of government, to witness the event.

Those who marked present in Bertoua included, Joseph Le, the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reform and a prominent elite of the East.

Others included the Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Relations with the National Assembly, Bolvine Wakata; the Special Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic, Dieudonne Samba, and the Metropolitan Archbishop, of Bertoua, His Grace, Joseph Atanga.

Also in attendance were the Directors General of the National Social Insurance Fund, CNPS, and that of HYSACAM, the town cleaning giant. There were also the representatives of the regional administration and those of the Lom and Djerem Division.

For the Director General of FEICOM, Camille Philippe Akoa, the 12 years were characterized by periods of discouragement, when funding came in trickles, leading to despair, and sometimes, complete holdup on the project.

Akoa said it was determination and collaboration among the partners that made it possible for the project to see the light of day. He disclosed that there were three principal personalities involved in the execution of the project, though he as the Director General of FEICOM was at the head.

The others were, Alphonse Wouamane Mbele, who Akoa said, conceived and followed up the execution process and Jean Marie Dimbélé Sodea, the sitting Mayor, who provided the last momentum that enabled the project to be delivered finally.

Akoa told the population of the town that the Bertoua Town Hall is the most expensive investment FEICOM had made in favour of the regions so far. He said the edifice remains the only Town Hall built in four floors, with two central portions and two modern lifts serving each wing of the building.

The edifice is also provided with green spaces, solar lighting, modern walkways, parking spaces, independent water supply, a 250 KVA stand by generator, and a stock of modern specialized equipment for adequate maintenance of the edifice.

According to Akoa, the achievement is a demonstration of FEICOM’s commitment to accompany the government attain its development objectives as enshrined in the strategic document for national development, SND 30.
