Renowned academic and former Dean of the University of Bamenda, UBa, Prof Maurice Kor Ndikontar, is the new Vice Chancellor, VC, of leading professional private university, Yaounde International Business School, YIBS.

The accomplished academic was appointed and presented Wednesday June 3. This was during a meeting with the staff on the YIBS campus in Simbock, Yaounde.

Prof Ndikontar replaces Reverend Hon. Prof Anyambod Emmanuel Anya. Prof Anyambod, who served as VC for about four years, is now Vice President of YIBS Board of Trustees.

The new VC of YIBS was appointed alongside the pioneer Director of the newly created International School of Engineering, Science and Technology, ISEST, Prof Yongho Louis.

According to the President of YIBS Board of Trustees, Godfred Taku Acho, the new VC and ISEST Director were appointed after a “comprehensive interview process with so many other candidates and they proved that they can do the job”.

Taku noted that the new YIBS and ISEST officials “are experienced, mature and confident”. He tasked them to assist key stakeholders to manage the schools effectively.

“The new Director [of ISEST] has the necessary competences to lead this new school and a new vision which is driving innovation and transformation,” Taku said.

He noted that the new VC has what it takes to coordinate both YIBS and ISEST.

“…we believe he has the required competences, the experience, maturity and all what it takes to drive the school to higher heights,” Taku said about of Prof Ndikontar.

Taku, a celebrated Chattered Accountant with seven international qualifications, also pledged his support to the new officials to ensure that they succeed.

YIBS, it should be recalled, has been existing for the past 15 years. ISEST, Taku noted, was approved by the Ministry of Higher Education in January 2026.

According to Taku Acho, the main reason for a new institution is to have a strategic focus. This, he mentioned, is because YIBS has a business orientation in the areas of business, finance management and other business-related fields.

ISEST, he added, has a clear focus on engineering, and technology, which is in line with government policies.

Other new appointees

The meeting also witnessed the presentation of the three-man Human Resource Department including a Human Resource Manager and Consultant.

There was also the presentation of awards received during The Voice Newspaper Decennials Trendsetters Awards. YIBS bagged home another prestigious prize, while the President was also recognised.

New VC, Prof Maurice Kor Ndikontar, addressing staff

New VC vows to do his best

Speaking to reporters, Prof Ndikontar promised to do his best. With 35 years of experience, he promised to elevate the status of YIBS to become a reference on all fronts.

“YIBS already has a history which is quite positive. The school has been insisting on practical training and this goes to my heart,” the new VC said, adding that: “I think that when you train people, they have to be as practical as possible”.

Prof Ndikontar promised to support students to “become real professionals”. The renowned university don declared that “the immediate thing is to digitalise so that we have less paperwork to look at, but give our archives a touch so that we are able to access information”.

Prof Ndikontar had also worked at the University of Yaounde I. He was transferred to UBa when it was created. He worked in the university for 15 years and was in charge of student affairs and admissions.

Enter outgoing VC

The outgone VC, Rev Prof Anyambod, described the new VC as “a blessing” and “qualified” for the role. He also said his successor is “the best choice” for YIBS, remarking that with Prof Ndikontar, the school is in “safe hands”.

“…I have no doubt that he is going to do a better job than what I did,” Rev Prof Anyambod said. He said under his tenure as VC of YIBS, there was a tremendous increase in the number of students from about 850 to over 3,000.

He also noted that: “When I came here, we had one building. I am leaving the school today with two very nice buildings, well equipped. When I came to this school, we did not even have bus, I am leaving the school today with two school buses for students’ activities”.

He added that results of the students have also improved and that both academic and administrative staff have increased.

While expressing delight at his time at the school, Prof Anyambod noted that: “I am very proud that we have trained people to become job creators and not job seekers”.
