The visit was organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure as part of the first Cameroon National Tourism Week. Officials said the Week will last September 28 to market the country’s touristic attractions.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, Ndioro à Mamoun Paul Marcel, led the delegation. Media professionals, content creators and influencers also accompanied the team.

The Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to Cameroon, Armando Kote Echuaca, who doubles as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Cameroon led the diplomats.

The Interim Minister of Tourism and Leizure, Gabriel Mbairobe, had briefly received the diplomats before the field visit. The team also made a stop at the Mbalmayo International Conference Centre.

The diplomats toured the 820-hectare Mefou Park which boasts of some 300 wild animals. The guests also visited specially-established stands of Made in Cameroon products at the Mbalmayo International Conference Centre.

The Ambassador of Spain to Cameroon, Juan Pedro Pérez-Gómez hailed the park. He said the facility aptly captures Cameroon’s touristic riches. He said the Centre also shows Cameroon’s committed to the protection of nature and wildlife.

“I must say I am very impressed. First, by the beauty of the site, and above all, by the great work they are doing especially in raising awareness about the need to protect these species, which are so important for the forest. An ecological balance exists, and we really must respect that,” the diplomat stated.

Pérez-Gómez said Spain which prides itself as one of the world’s leading tourism powers, remains open to working with the government of Cameroon.

The goal, he said, will be to ensure the tourism sector and similar areas continue to enjoy huge investments.

“…I truly believe Cameroon has immense natural and cultural wealth to offer to the world,” the Ambassador told reporters.

Mefou Park ideal choice to launch National Tourism Week

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, Ndioro à Mamoun, said beyond the visit to the Mefou Park, other events have been programmed.

Mamoun said the weeklong series will also be punctuated by a gastronomic night, a conference, a walk and other activities following the official launching ceremony today.

The Mefou Park, he stated, provided an ideal platform to promote tourism in Cameroon. Mamoun noted that it also offered the government a chance to strengthen its efforts in the areas of biodiversity protection and the conservation of animal species.

“The goal is to encourage the general public, and Cameroonians in particular, to discover the rich wildlife our country possesses. Mefou Park is located right at the entrance to the city of Yaounde,” Mamoun stated.

Authorities of the Park expressed gratitude to the delegation. They said the structure is always pleased to hosts visitors and continue working in partnership with the government.
