Maiden National Tourism Week ends in Y’de today.

The first edition of the Cameroon National Tourism Week will roundup in Yaounde today Monday, September 28. The ceremony will be held at the National Museum. 

The Interim Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Gabriel Mbairobe, is expected to chair the event. 



The event is part of activities marking the commemoration of the 2026 edition of the World Tourism Week led by in Cameroon by the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure.

The Week has been taking place under the theme: “Digital agenda and Artificial Intelligence to redesign tourism”. 

Activities kick started on Thursday, September 24, with an excursion to the Mefou Park in the Nyong and So’o Division of the Centre Region and a brief visit in Mbalmayo.

The programme was attended by diplomats, media professionals, content creators and influencers. The group was led by the Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, Ndioro à Mamoum Paul Marcel. 

The excursion was followed by a tourism fair and a gastronomic night on Friday, September 25. This was followed by a sports walk on Saturday September 26 among other activities.

 

Crowd-pulling tourism fair

The tourism fair was launched by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Ndioro à Mamoum.

It brought together tourism stakeholders, diplomats, administrative authorities, exhibitors and a special group of participants from the Nigerian community in Cameroon. 

The initiative provided participants platforms to explore exhibitions showcasing Cameroon’s tourism potential, creativity and cultural diversity. 

The main centre of attraction at the Fair was the gastronomic space which was made up of a variety of dishes representing Cameroon’s four cultural zones.

The Secretary General of the ministry said the Fair was a purposefully-designed initiative for stakeholders to meet, exchange ideas, and share experiences.

Mamoum said the program was tailored to align with Cameroon’s ambition to promote a dynamic and modern tourism sector as highlighted by the theme of the National Tourism Week.

“The minister organised this fair to enable the public and potential tourists to discover all the tourist attractions our beautiful country has to offer. It also aims to connect the various professionals and sectors within tourism and leisure and to highlight our culture,” Mamoum stated after visiting the stands at the fairs.

Enter sports walk

Participants covered over 10 kilometers during the sports walk on Saturday. The exercise was held from the Mfoundi Divisional Delegation of Tourism and Leisure and concluded at the National Museum.

It was led by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, Zomekou Ateba Joseph.

The Inspector General said the walk was organised with the intention of using sports to unite actors in the tourism and leisure sector and beyond. 

He said the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure equally organized the walk with the aim of using the exercise to generate contents that will be explored in marking Cameroon’s tourism sector on digital platforms.

The Head of Social Action Service at the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, Mengue Olame Isabelle, expressed gratitude to hierarchy for the decision to organize the walk. 

She said the exercise enabled staff to show their satisfaction with the various activities that were organized to mark the Week. “We walked and put in the effort to stay healthy and fit so that we can carry out our duties within our administration effectively,” Mengue Olame stated.
