The Embassy of the United States in Cameroon has announced plans by Illinois-based infrastructure development firm, A. Epstein and Sons International, and its financial partner, Integrated Trade Finance, ITF; to undertake airport and entertainment infrastructure projects valued at $2.23 billion (approximately FCFA 1.3 trillion) in Cameroon.

In a statement published Thursday, October 15, the embassy disclosed that the American company and its partner are holding discussions to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed $2 billion (about FCFA 1.17 trillion) mega-airport in the Douala metropolitan area.

According to the embassy, the proposed airport is a national priority project and intended to expand the country's aviation infrastructure and improve regional transport connectivity.

The embassy further announced plans by Epstein and ITF to construct ultra-modern theatre halls worth $230 million (roughly FCFA134.8 billion) in Yaounde, Douala and Bamenda.

According to the diplomatic mission, the partners are currently working towards obtaining approval for the business plan and advancing preparations for the theatre projects.

The US Embassy said the initiatives are part of growing economic cooperation between Cameroon and the United States, with emphasis on private-sector investment, infrastructure development and improved transport connectivity.

A. Epstein and Sons International is an Illinois-based company specialising in architecture, engineering and construction services. According to its official website, the company operates in several sectors, including aviation, transportation, industrial infrastructure and construction management.

US shifts focus to trade, investment

It is worth noting thatthe announcement comes as the United States pivots its relationship with Cameroon toward trade, commercial ties, and private-sector investment.

During the inaugural US-Cameroon Economic and Commercial Dialogue held in Yaounde on August 27, 2026, both countries discussed a pipeline of trade and investment opportunities estimated at approximately $7 billion (nearly FCFA4 trillion). It emerged from the forum that the opportunities cover several sectors, including energy, mining, infrastructure, technology and logistics.

The US Chargé d'Affaires in Cameroon, John G. Robinson, had earlier outlined Washington's changing approach to economic cooperation, emphasising trade and investment rather than traditional development assistance.

The dialogue followed a business climate forum organised in Yaounde, where American businesses and Cameroonian officials discussed investment opportunities and challenges affecting commercial activities.
