Mintack FC of Upper Sanaga

Newly-promoted Mintack Football Club of Upper Sanaga and Elecsport of Limbe shared the spoils in the opening match of the 2026/2027 second division football championship.

The teams registered the reassuring start on Saturday after playing out a 1-1 draw.

The match was played at the Centenary Stadium in Limbe, Fako Division of the South West Region.

The official kickoff of the match marking the launch of the season was given by the President of the Transitional Council of Professional Football, CTFP, Boudjiko Youkeka Pierre.

The ceremony was attended by the Special Advisor to the President of the Cameroon Football Federation in charge of the supervision and monitoring of professional, amateur and youth championships Frank Happi.

Centre Region outfit, Mintack FC opened the scoring 10 minutes into the match courtesy of playmaker Barnabe Ayissi.

The home team fired in the equalizing goal 10 minutes later through captain, Ngu Foncham. The skipper powered in the goal from the penalty spot.

Elecsport and Mintack FC qualified for the Elite Two championship at the end of the 2025/2027 season.

The pair secured the tickets after dominating the 2026 edition of the National Interpools, the lead qualification tournament for the second-tier football showpiece.

Elecsport will face AS FAP of Yaounde on matchday two of the new season.

Mintack FC will host Fauve Azur of Yaounde in its next fixture in the competition.

Kumba City FC muted

Elsewhere on day one of the championship, South West Region team, Kumba City Football Club launched its campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Astres of Douala.

Forwards, Ginola Thoyi and Michel Yamendjeu both found the back of the net to give the Littoral Region team a 2-0 lead at the Annex A of the Japoma Stadium in Douala.

Playmaker, Nkar Thorarne reduced the margin when he netted from the penalty spot at the 85th minute.

The goal however ended up appearing too late to inspire the visitors to a comprehensive comeback over the Brazilians of Bepanda.

Kumba City will entertain Sable Football Club of Batie at the Kumba Municipal Stadium on matchday two.

Sable of Batie will head to the match aiming for maximum points following the disappointing result that it registered on Saturday on matchday one.

The West Region outfit was walloped 3-1 by Tonnerre Kalara Club of Yaounde.

Forward Rodrigue Joan capitalized on a series of defensive errors to score a brace for the Kalara Boys while playmaker Bassir Soudi got the team’s third goal of the afternoon.

Sable got its solitary goal courtesy of former ISOHSA of Limbe and Stade Renard of Melong’s playmaker Randin Ngongeh.

Astres of Douala will be up against Avion Academy of Nkam on matchday two.

Elsewhere in the competition, newly-relegated Fauve Azur flagged off its campaign with a 2-0 lost at home to Bamboutos Football Club of Mbouda.

While Fauve will entertain Mintack FC in a Centre regional derby in its next outing, Bamboutos FC will host Tonnerre in Mbouda in what is expected to be the top game of the second matchday of the new campaign.
