Women’s Super League: FECAFOOT, Guinness Cameroon launch search for co-sponsor.

The Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, has through its women’s football arm, LFFC, is currently out to get a co-sponsor to partner with brewery company, Guinness Cameroun as sponsors of the women’s topflight football championship.

LFFC and Guinness Cameron unveiled the search plans during an event organised in Douala on Friday March 31.

The meeting brought together established business operators in Cameroon especially those of them based in the country’s economic capital.

“Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT and Guinness Cameroun have assimilated the spirit of collaboration. Halfway through the third season of the Guinness Super League, the two entities organised an exceptional meeting with major companies of the city,” FECAFOOT announced on its official website.

“The objective was to bring the companies to join the project which is a source of hope for a large part of the young female population” the federation continued.

During the event, the representatives of the invited companies present were treated to presentations on the technical aspects of the offers.

The Head of Media and Digital from Guinness Cameroon, Michelle Mballa outlined the advantages of the deal from the view of the brewery company.

The Chief Marketing Compliance on behalf of FECAFOOT, Estelle Konlak epouse Takoukam did the presentations from the view point of the Cameroonian FA.

The Marketing Manager of beer at Guinness Cameroon, Franziska Riedel, “expressed delight with the progress made since the signing of the contract with FECAFOOT,”.

On her part, the president of the women’s football league, Celine Eko, in an address during the event, referred to the partnership between the federation and the LFFC with Guinness Cameroon as “a marriage open to other partnerships,” outlining numerous advantages of the coming in of new partners.

The search of another sponsor according to sources, is the coming to fruition of decisions taken by FECAFOOT and Guinness Cameroon early this year.

The two institutions met on February 2, 2023 and discovered the ways through which the women’s topflight in Cameroon can be pushed to become more popular.

Enlarging an already flourishing partnership

Guinness Cameroon became the lead sponsor of the women’s first-division football championship in 2020.

The arrival of the Cameroonian auxiliary of the brewery company led to the renaming of the women’s top-flight championship to the Guinness Super League.

Guinness’ arrival also led to the popularisation of the women’s top tier in Cameroon. Fans’ turnout in stadia during match days increased due to improved quality and the marketing approach brought about by the structure.

The marketing also led to the league’s games getting broadcast on various national television channels.

The partnership however witnessed a slight decline late last year. FECAFOOT in December announced it had cut down players’ salaries by 50%.

This entailed the players who per the innovations by the federation were supposed to earn the sum of 100,000 FCFA as monthly salaries, had their salaries reduced to 50,000 FCFA.

FECAFOOT in the announcement on December 22, stated it was deducting the monies due to Guinness Cameroun’s failure to meet up with its agreed obligation of paying half of the salaries for the players.

Despite the reported lapses, the two partners have seen their collaboration continuously flourishing.

The coming in of new potential partners to pair up with Guinness Cameroun as a co-sponsor is expected to have a bigger positive impact in the development of women’s football in the country.
