Non-profit association, LikeMinds, in a bid to combat youth unemployment in the country, is poised to empower young individuals with a diverse range of entrepreneurial skills through a comprehensive and free training programme.

The training workshop is scheduled to take place in Buea on May 8.

The initiative offers valuable instruction in sought-after skills such as manicure and pedicure, braiding, wig installation, makeup, graphic design, crocheting, and forex trading, among others. Beyond these practical skills, LikeMinds will also provide free training in essential soft skill areas like leadership, entrepreneurship, and career orientation, coupled with dedicated free mentorship.

According to the vision-bearer of LikeMinds, Enaw Regina-Claudia, the core purpose of the association is rooted in its identity as a community-driven initiative dedicated to empowering young individuals through skill acquisition and personal development.

“Our mission is to create a supportive environment where youths can learn, grow, and thrive by subsidising prices for skills training and development programs,” Enaw Regina stated.

She added that: “Our goal is to unlock the full potential of the youth and create a brighter future for generations to come. We aim to bridge the gap between ambition and opportunity, ensuring that every young person has access to the resources they need to succeed".

On his part, the co-founder of LikeMinds, Jones Okie, underscored the importance of mindset transformation in achieving success.

"Our message entails pushing young people to transform their minds. We understand how mind transformation is achieved by reading books, attending self-improvement workshops, seminars, and financial empowerment, among others," Okie said.

He further highlighted the critical timing of this initiative, which comes at a time when youth unemployment is at its peak in the country.

“There is a vast population of young people with no means and resources to take care of themselves. We came up with the idea after carrying out research where we discovered that most young people, after graduating from the university, are unable to find employment, especially in the corporate world, despite their education,” Okie mentioned.

He added that, “this workshop is to empower them with money-making skills that can help them create employment for themselves and others."

To further motivate the learners, LikeMinds announced that the most outstanding students in the programme will be awarded prizes.
