ELECAM unveils online platform for voters to check enrolment.

Dr Erik Essousse speaking addressing media

Elections management body, Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, has unveiled an online platform, www.elecam.cmto enable potential voters consult their enrolment.

The Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Dr Erik Essousse, launched the portal Thursday.

He said the platform is designed to enable citizens at home and abroad check their voter registration status online.

Dr Essousse said the new system is a way to ensure a transparent, secured and accessible electoral process, especially as the October presidential election approaches.

He declared that the system is part of ELECAM’s “commitment to modernizing electoral process”.

“We are working to ensure every Cameroonian has easy access to verify their registration without the need to visit local offices,” he said.

The platform, he explained, offers a wide range of services, including an overview of ELECAM’s mission, news updates on upcoming elections, statistical data on voter enrolment, and the location of regional offices.

The system, Dr Essousse said, was developed in collaboration with Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, and the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies, ANTIC, to ensure robust security.

“We have reinforced the security of this new portal, both in terms of hardware and software. These measures were taken to safeguard the confidentiality of individual voter data so that no unauthorized third party can access sensitive information,” Dr Essousse assured.

He declared that the site contains 7,845,622 registered voters, with 7,818,822 enrolled nationally and 26,800 registered abroad. The Elections DG said the information contained on the site was last updated in December 2024.

Dr Essousse noted that once the Head of State convenes the electorate of the October poll, the voters’ register will be updated to current enrolment data. ELECAM, he said, will conduct a meticulous online updating process to ensure accuracy.

The process, he said, will include the removal of double entries, updates on residential information, corrections of personal details, and the deleting of deceased potential voters. The changes, he said, will be made in line with the provisions of the Electoral Code.

Addresses past website issues

Addressing concerns about the previous unavailability of ELECAM’s website, Dr Essousse acknowledged that the outdated infrastructure posed significant security risks.

He said the situation led the Institution to transition to a more secure and modern platform that complies with current international standards.

“With this new portal, we have ensured that all electoral data is safely housed and accessible in real-time,” he added.

How the portal works

Dr Essousse said citizens can verify their registration by visiting www.elecam.cm and selecting the “Check your registration” option. He said there are two verification methods viz; using a Voter’s Registration Number by entering the figures found on the voter’s card or registration receipt.

The ELECAM official added that potential voters can also check their status online by entering their surname, middle name, date and place of birth, and mother’s name on the platform.

He explained that for security purposes, users must complete a Captcha verification before accessing their information.

In case of confusion, he stated that, a video tutorial is available on ELECAM’s communication platforms to guide users.
