Race to Unity Palace: Presidential Candidate, Espoir Matomba, calls for calm as public awaits results.

Espoir Matomba during the press briefing

Presidential candidate of United People for Social Renovation, PURS, party at the October 12 polls, Serge Espoir Matomba, has called for calm and patience as the general public awaits the official results.

This was during a recent press briefing the candidate organised at his party’s headquarters in Yaounde.

In a statement addressed to the national and international public, Matomba confirmed that teams are “currently at work compiling results based on the official reports progressively received from representatives deployed in the various polling stations across the country.” He said the process…aims to verify vote tallies recorded at each polling station.

“Our representatives in the field are transmitting the reports from all polling stations. These reports give us not only our own results but also those of all the other candidates. The compilation allows us to have the exact figures and understand the overall outcome of the election,” Matomba explained.

Matomba reiterated his commitment to democracy and transparency, noting that his party would await the proclamation of results by the competent authorities before releasing its own compiled data. He emphasised that the election process is not yet complete despite voting having ended.

“I want to reassure all our voters and all Cameroonians that while voting has ended, the election process is not yet over. We are calmly awaiting the publication of the official results by the authorised institutions,” he said.

“We will stand by the people”

Matomba further assured supporters that his party would accept the verdict of the ballot box and uphold national unity.

“We guarantee that we will stand on the side of the people. Whatever the outcome, we will align ourselves with the majority of votes expressed by the Cameroonian people,” he declared.

He thanked supporters, sympathisers, and partners for what he described as their exemplary mobilisation and renewed confidence. His statement concluded with a reaffirmation of his party’s “unwavering commitment to democracy, transparency, and peace”.
