The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, has defended a budget of 651 billion, 952 million FCFA for his ministry for the 2026 fiscal year.

The envelope was defended before members of the Budget and Finance Committee at the National Assembly on November 28.

Minister Nganou Djoumessi was accompanied by his Secretary of State in charge of Roads, Armand Ndjodom, and other principal collaborators.

The appearance of the Minister of Public Works before the Budget and Finance Committee of the National Assembly was part of the annual exercise of presenting and justifying the financial projections of public administrations for the year 2026.

The minister said the allocation is “intended to ensure the ministry’s operations and to continue major road infrastructure and public works projects across the country".

Minister Nganou Djoumessi also highlighted the real needs relating to the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of the national road network, as well as the consolidation of the technical capacities required to carry out infrastructure projects for the 2026 financial year.

He said the ministry’s 2026 budget is based on four structural programmes that reflect government's priorities in terms of mobility and territorial development.

The priorities include the construction of road infrastructure, the rehabilitation and maintenance of existing infrastructure, technical studies and support for project management of other infrastructure, and the governance and management of support functions to ensure operational efficiency.

The minister also used the outing at the National Assembly to remind lawmakers of the progress made in 2025. He also outlined challenges still ahead and justified the additional resources needed to speed up the priority projects included in the budget programme.

“We have many road projects. You see, what we are doing on the Ring Road, National Road No11… we have constructed already 96.7km of the road. We are working in Nkambe…those sections of the road will be completed in 2026,” he told reporters after defending the budget.

He announced that: “We will commence the construction of the Ngaoundere-Garoua Road…we will continue with the construction of Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri Road, the construction of the Ebolowa-Akom II-Kribi Road and others which are extremely important to develop the economy of our country”.
