Vice President post: Cameroon Consul in Nairobi denounces fake appointment reports.

Dr Vivian Nain Kuma, Consul Nairobi

The Consul of Cameroon to Nairobi, Kenya, Dr Vivian Nain Kuma, has denounced false media reports in the Kenyan media organs about the appointment of Frank Emmanuel Biya as Vice President and head of armed forces.

Dr Kuma condemned the reports in a statement April 7.

The diplomat expressed concern over publications and broadcasts made on April 6 and 7 by several media organisations in the East African country.

She mentioned the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, Tuko, Nation FM Kenya, Kenya Times, Star Kenya, Signs TV, and Weru TV as media organs that relayed such unfounded information.

The Consul said the media organs reported that the Head of State, Paul Biya, has already appointed his son as Vice President. She condemned the reports and asked the media organs to issue an apology.

According to the statement, while the position of Vice President has indeed been created within the Cameroon’s institutional framework, so far, nobody has been appointed.

The Consul clarified that no official act has been taken to designate any individual to the role, insisting that the widespread media narratives are fake.

The diplomat further condemned what she described as “falsehood and unfriendly reporting” about Cameroon.

She called on the media houses to issue immediate corrections and public apologies to prevent the spread of misinformation and protect the country’s image.

Dr Kuma reiterated that such unverified claims risk misleading the public and straining diplomatic relations.

Worthy to note is the fact that on Saturday, April 4, lawmakers adopted the modification of some provisions of the 1996 constitution.

Among the changes that saw the light of day was the reintroduction of the post of Vice President. The changes were approved during the 6th Congress of Parliament.

After the amendment, all eyes are now on President Biya to enact the modified Constitution into a law and appoint a Vice President.
