Yaounde to host forum tackling public procurement challenges May 27.

The nation’s capital city, Yaounde, is gearing up for the maiden Public Procurement and Contract Management Executive Leadership Forum, which will address complex challenges in the sector and strengthen procurement performance and institutional impact. 



The three-day forum is aimed at transforming procurement systems into drivers of measurable public value, innovation and institutional credibility. It is billed to hold at the Djeuga Palace Hotel from May 27 to 29, 2026, under the theme: “From Compliance to Public Value”.

The high-level to gathering to bring together government leaders, development partners and industry experts, is organised by independent nonprofit organisation, the Advanced Institute for Supply Chain Research, AISCR.

This is in collaboration with the University of Buea, the Yaounde International Business School, the Cameroonian Association of Public Procurement Practitioners, Global Dominium Services and the African Business Information Bank. 

Organisers position the AISCR Executive Leadership Forum as a platform for officials to transition public procurement from a basic compliance function into a powerful strategic engine for national development, digital innovation, and measurable public value. 

Public procurement is a powerful economic engine, accounting for 15–20% of global GDP. To tackle challenges ranging from digital transformation to supply chain resilience procurement, the sector must evolve into a strategic leadership tool and move from its basic audit transparency and procedural compliance to modern governance demands.

The purpose is principally to strengthen procurement leadership, professional capacity development with modern tools for planning, supplier evaluation, and contract management as well as policy dialogue and reform to provide procurement reform, digital procurement, and institutional modernization. 

Expected to attend the forum are professionals involved in procurement governance and supply chain management including government procurement officers, procurement directors and contract managers, supply chain managers in public institutions and policy advisors involved in procurement reform.

It will also be attended by development organisations and multilateral institutions, private sector suppliers and contractors, consultants supporting public sector procurement, procurement and supply chain professional, researchers and academics, chartered accountants and professionals of the legal profession.

Through the forum, participants would develop capabilities to design strategic procurement plans aligned with institutional priorities, evaluate suppliers using structured scoring models. manage contracts and monitor supplier performance.

They will also hone their skills to identify and mitigate procurement risks, strengthen transparency and procurement governance, implement digital procurement systems (e-GP), integrate procurement and supply chain strategy as well as audit procurement procedures. 

Through the forum, organisers aim to strengthen understanding of strategic procurement governance, enhance dialogue between policymakers and procurement professionals, improve capacity in procurement and contract management, identify innovative procurement practices as well as greater awareness of procurement’s role in delivering public values. 

The forum is structured as a professional event combining strategic dialogue with practical training on strategic dialogue and policy perspectives, practical skills and strategic tools as well as digital procurement and institutional reform. 

Key speakers at the forum will include the President of the Cameroonian Association of Public Procurement Practitioners, Berka Dzekem, who is a distinguished public procurement expert, seasoned trainer and thought leader extensive experience in Cameroon’s public contracting ecosystem.

Another expert is Dr Albert Njamen, a distinguished authority in supply chain management procurement and logistics with over three decades of international experience.

To also serve as speaker is Dr Tumenta Kennedy, an expert in private sector development, SME strategy and economic transformation across Africa.
