The Director General of Customs, Fongod Edwin Nuvaga, has prescribed rigour and professionalism to the new interim Head of the Customs Investigations and Surveillance Division, Senior Custom Inspector Eba’a Efandane Alain Parfait.

Fongod gave the directives on April 29. This was during an installation ceremony at the Custom Training Centre, CTC, campus in Nomayos, Yaounde.

Senior custom officials attended the ceremony marking the official handover of duties between the incoming and outgoing division head of the Customs Investigations and Surveillance Division.

The Director General of the International School for Security Forces, EIFORCES, as well as other administrative authorities also lived the ceremony.

Senior Customs Inspector Eba’a Efandene Alain Parfait who formerly served as Head of the Far North Customs Sector replaces Major Ndo Gervais Eric.

Custom boss said he was confident that Senior Customs Inspector Eba’a will build on the progress made since 2020 in the customs investigations and surveillance department.

He reminded Eba’a of the need to carry on the legacy of his predecessor. Fongod tasked him to “promote a culture of excellence and encourage your staff to respond swiftly, rigorously, and professionally to all security threats and potential fraud risks”.

According to Fongod, “ongoing training, ethics, professional conduct, and collaboration must remain your top priorities”. He hammered strongly on the need to “remain united around republican values.”

He said Eba’a is now charged with finalizing certain important reforms that were effectively initiated by your predecessor. Fongod cited the accelerating the modernization of the customs administration; the acquisition, training, and use of drones and strengthening the professionalization of surveillance officers.

He also mentioned the use of digital technology in customs controls; the strengthening of strategies to combat illicit trafficking; and combating fraudulent exports of certain products such as cocoa, gold, and other precious stones.

“…I remain convinced that the successful implementation of these projects, combined with the new reforms you will propose to me will ensure ever more exceptional performance in customs investigations and surveillance,” he said.

He urged his staff to cooperate fully with the new Head of the Customs Investigations and Surveillance Division. On his part, Senior Customs Inspector Eba’a promised to use his wealth of experience to do his job diligently.

He called on his collaborators to “accompany in my work” stating that he intends to break new grounds after the successful tenure of his predecessor.

“We will continue on the same path. We will improve and move forward,” Eba’a said.

Custom boss hails Major Ndo for excellent service

The ceremony to install Eba’a also witnessed the farewell ceremony for Major Ndo Gervais Eric served for over three decades.

Major Ndo Gervais Eric joined the Customs Administration in 1991 and worked his way up through the ranks with responsibilities in strategic positions.

Fongod praised Major Ndoo for “consistently demonstrating exceptional availability to senior management”. He described Ndo as a “pioneer of modern customs surveillance in Cameroon”.

“You have become both my watchdog and my strategic advisor on customs surveillance, as well as a key architect in the fight against fraud,” Fongod said.

He added that: “From 2020 to 2025, in addition to the exceptional seizures carried out here and there by the field units, you have given me complete satisfaction in the handling of various strategic cases. You have helped revitalize the fight against customs fraud”.

Fongod said Major Ndo was leaving the Customs service with his head held high as devotedly respected the oath he swore. He further insisted that Major Ndo leaves behind an unblemished record.

“On behalf of the entire Cameroonian Customs Service, I thank you. Thank you for your loyalty to the institution. Thank you for your camaraderie toward your professional family,” Fongod mentioned.

Wishes good fortunes in new role

Fongod seized the occasion to wish Major Ndo success in his new position as President of the South Regional Council following his election last year.

“Your election as President of the Regional Council of the South is not a departure. It is a transition. A transition in the service of the nation, in a new and even more exciting capacity.” Fongod said.

“Customs loses a senior officer. The Republic gains an elected official. The South gains a builder. The customs community can only be proud of you,” Fongod added.

Enjoins others to emulate footsteps

While making a clarion call to the younger generations of Customs personnel, Fongod told them to emulate the exemplary footsteps of Major Ndo.

The Customs boss said “one can serve with loyalty, depart with dignity, and continue to raise Cameroon to greater heights”.

“Take three lessons from him. Competence: train yourselves constantly; Discipline: respect the chain of command, laws, and regulations; Humility: rank passes, service remains,” Fongod recommended.
