Lions midfielder, Nathan Douala, joins Sudanese club.

Cameroon international midfielder, Wilfried Nathan Douala, has joined Sudan's first division club, Al-Merrikh Sports Club.

The 20-year-old Indomitable Lions player has signed a three-year deal with the Sudanese professional top tier club until 2029.



The club confirmed the signing of the Cameroonian player via their verified X, formerly Twitter account.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Cameroonian international playmaker Wilfred Nathan Douala,” the club wrote.

They added that: “Please join us and welcome Nathan to the home of Al-Merrikh, where glory is made and championships are written.”

Douala Nathan joined Al-Merrikh SC from Cameroon Elite One club, Canon Sportif of Yaounde.

Canon Sportif said then in an official statement on their verified Facebook account that Nathan Douala had agreed a one-year deal with the club.

The legendary Cameroonian outfit also added that his deal included a signing bonus of 3 million FCFA. No further details were mentioned about Nathan Douala’s contract.

Nathan Douala joined Canon Sportif as a free agent from Elite One rivals Victoria United FC. 

He played a pivotal role to help One People, One Power, Opopo, to their maiden league title.

He also took part in Victoria United’s dismal Confederation of African Football, CAF Champions League campaign with a standout performance despite a first-round exit to Samartex of Ghana following a 2-0 aggregate defeat. It was his debut in an African inter-club competition. 

Douala Nathan was part of Cameroon’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON. 

According to reports, he was the youngest player in the tournament.

The Cameroon international was nominated for the 2024 Cameroon Ballon d’Or. 

He missed out on the prize to Coton Sport of Garoua striker, Nchindo John Bosco.

Nathan Douala also won the Best Young Player of the Season Award.  

He was also the lone player of Victoria United named in the MTN Elite One Team of The Season.

He joins The Red Devils, as they are also referred to, at a time when the club is chasing its first Sudan Premier League trophy since 2020. 

They have previously won the trophy 19-times. They have also failed to win a major trophy in six years.

Douala Nathan joins two other new signings secured by the club. 

The club also secured the services of Mali midfielder, Ibrahim Traore from Congolese club, Otoho and Ghana Black Stars’ Enock Morrison from Kenyan club Gor Mahia.
