Sports minister honours returning medal-winning athletes.

Minister Mouelle Kombi presenting certificate to athlete

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, has honoured Cameroonian athletes who won medals in bodybuilding and fitness, para-athletics, taekwondo and parataekwondo during recent international competitions.

The recognition ceremony took place recently at the ministry’s conference hall in Yaounde.

The athletes and their coaches were presented with certificates in acknowledgement of their performances.

The event followed a similar reception organised for athletes from athletics, cycling and sambo.

The ceremony focused on competitors who represented Cameroon in international events held in Georgia, Mali and Tunisia. During the international events, the athletes secured several podium finishes.

At the Grand Prix Bodybuilding competition in Tbilisi, Georgia, Cameroon finished first overall with six medals, comprising four gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Among the standout performers was Alexandre Kevin Anoho, who won gold in the Classic Open category and Best Poser competition before adding a bronze medal in the overall classification.

Desmond Khan also contributed to the country’s success, winning gold in the Men’s Physique category and silver in the Men’s Physique Open event.

Cameroon also recorded strong results at the African Taekwondo and Para-Taekwondo Championships held in Bamako, Mali.

In Para-Taekwondo, the national team secured two gold medals and two silver medals.

In taekwondo, the women’s under-30 and men’s under-60 teams won gold medals in the poomsae discipline.

The country’s para-athletes also delivered notable performances at the Grand Prix Para Athletics competition in Tunis.

Athletes with visual impairments won two gold medals and one silver medal, while competitors with physical and intellectual impairments added a bronze medal to Cameroon’s tally.

Addressing the athletes during the ceremony, sports minister said the recognition reflected the importance of celebrating achievement across all sporting disciplines.

“By celebrating these performances, we are highlighting the values of effort, self-improvement and discipline. It is also our way of encouraging young people to believe in their abilities,” Narcisse Mouelle Kombi said.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of performance certificates to the medal-winning athletes and members of their technical staff in recognition of their contributions to Cameroon’s success on the international stage.
