The Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, MINPMEESA, has announced that the 9th edition of the Cameroon International Handicrafts Fair, SIARC, will take place from July 27, to August 5, 2026, at the National Museum in Yaounde.

It will be held under the theme: “Between Tradition and Modernity: How Can We Foster Innovation in Handicrafts?”.

Going by MINPMEESA, the fair will bring together artisans, designers, entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders from across Africa. The ministry adds that discussions will focus on innovation, modernisation and the development of the handicrafts sector.

According to MINPMEESA, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire will participate as guest countries of honour during the 2026 edition. Their participation, the ministry noted, is expected to enrich exhibitions, exchanges and discussions highlighting the diversity of African artisanal traditions and expertise.

Information released by the ministry further indicates that the programme will include exhibition and sales stands, national heritage days, guest country showcases, thematic conferences, professional training sessions, competitions for outstanding artisans, business meetings and cultural activities.

The ministry added that the fair will also provide opportunities for artisans and entrepreneurs to showcase products, exchange experiences and establish professional contacts.

Business meetings planned during the event are expected to bring together producers, buyers and other stakeholders operating within the handicrafts value chain.

MINPMEESA indicated that practical workshops and conferences will address issues related to innovation, production techniques and the development of artisanal enterprises. The activities, the ministry said, are intended to support skills development and knowledge sharing among participants.

Platform for African craftsmanship

Organised under the High Patronage of President Paul Biya and coordinated by MINPMEESA under the leadership of Minister Achille Bassilekin III, SIARC 2026 is expected to attract local and international participants over the ten-day event.

According to the ministry, the fair is a platform for promoting African know-how and strengthening exchanges between artisans, institutions and professionals involved in the sector.

The ministry said the National Museum in Yaounde will host the event throughout the ten-day period, during which visitors will have access to exhibitions, sales displays, conferences, training sessions and cultural activities highlighting the richness and diversity of African craftsmanship.

According to MINPMEESA, SIARC 2026 will serve as a meeting point for stakeholders seeking to promote artisanal products, share expertise and explore opportunities for collaboration within the handicrafts sector while celebrating Africa’s cultural heritage and creative industries.
