National Assembly: Christian women’s association honours House Speaker, prays for national peace.

The delegation was led by the National President of the 10th Congress, Gwet Lydie Marianne. It brought together representatives from across the country who belong to the association’s membership of more than 38,000 women. 

The visit followed a guided tour of the Paul Biya Glass House and served as an opportunity for the women to present the activities of their organisation and reaffirm their commitment to national development.

One of the highlights of the visit was a session of intercessory prayers for the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and for peace, unity and stability throughout the country.

In his brief remarks, Rt Hon Théodore Datouo thanked the women for their kind words and expressions of support. He praised the association’s contribution to society through its work with women, youth and children. The Speaker said the organisation’s actions continue to promote social development and strengthen national values.

“Through your activities, you contribute not only to the spiritual growth of our society but also to the social development of our country. Your dedication to guiding children and supporting women and young people constitutes an essential pillar in preserving our values,” Rt. Hon. Datouo said.

He further encouraged the women to continue their mission, which plays an important role in building a stronger society.

“Your determination to promote faith through concrete actions is perfectly aligned with the ideals of peace, solidarity, cohesion and progress that we all desire. You are, without doubt, important actors in national development,” he added.

The Speaker also noted that the association’s programmes reflect the vision of empowering women and young people. He assured the delegation of the National Assembly’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of populations, particularly women and children.

Speaking earlier, Gwet Lydie Marianne congratulated the Rt. Hon. Théodore Datouo on his election as Speaker and thanked him for granting the audience despite his busy schedule. She said the association was a nationwide Christian movement committed to spreading the Gospel through both words and actions.

According to her, the association currently counts 38,415 active members and oversees programmes for children, with 59,303 children registered in its activities across the country. She also presented the various regional and synodical delegations represented at the gathering.

Gwet stressed on the association’s commitment to national development, revealing that its programmes have incorporated efforts to promote the empowerment of women and young people.

“Our country can count on us. We have integrated into our programmes the vision of empowering women and young people, and we remain committed to serving our church and contributing to the development of our nation through concrete acts of faith,” Gwet said.

She concluded by presenting symbolic gifts, including the association’s fabric and scarf as well as locally crafted products, to the Speaker as a souvenir of the visit.

Speaking to reporters after the audience, association member Angeline Ndo said their work mainly focuses on preparing women and children to take on responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to nation building.

“We also prayed for the Head of State, the House Speaker and the entire nation. Peace is essential because without peace there can be no progress, and that is why we continue to pray for the wellbeing of all citizens,” she concluded.
