At M.Tech Project Presentation Day: Yaoundde Int’l Business School cements position as research, innovation hub.

YIBS officials, students, others immortalize event

Leading professional private higher institution of learning, Yaounde International Business School, YIBS, has continued to cement its position as a hub for research and innovation in the country.

The institution’s esteemed reputation reached new heights as its first-year Masters students unveiled three innovative projects at the YIBS Campus in Simbock on Wednesday August 12.  

This was during the 2026 M.Tech Project Presentation Day. It took place under the theme: “Innovating for the future: Showcasing excellence in software engineering, cyber security and data science and Artificial Intelligence”. 

The project presentation session was coordinated by the Dean of School of Computer Engineering, Dr Kimbi Eric Jam. This was in the presence of the President of the YIBS Board of Trustees, Godfred Taku Acho; the Vice Chancellor of YIBS, Prof Maurice Kor Ndikontar; YIBS lecturers, administrative staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students and invited industry partners.

The projects were presented by Masters students from the department of Software Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, AI, and Cyber Security and Networking. 

During the showcase, the Masters students demonstrated practical applications of the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their studies.  

The event, it was said, was aimed at showcasing innovative projects developed by students, foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, as well as demonstrate YIBS’ commitment to research, innovation and industry-relevant education. 

 

Zoom into projects 

The first project, dubbed Compass, was presented by students of the department of Software Engineering; Kanjo Elkamira Ndi, Chatioh Densley, Fola Louis and Jackai Zo’o Bill Emmanuel. 

Compass, Kanjo revealed, is an intelligent student advisor that helps track performance, identify academic risks, discover career opportunities, and provides personalised guidance throughout the university journey of students. 

He said it also doubles as a school management system that helps students, lecturers and administrators of schools to manage multiple tasks during the academic year.

According to Kanjo, Compass has over 1,200 active students registered, 85 courses, and over 40,000 AI queries answered. 

Kanjo said through this application, students are able to get instant answers about courses, policies, and academic requirements, upload research papers and get structured AI-powered analysis, and connect with fellow students for group study sessions, peer tutoring and collaborative experiences. 

“Many students, especially freshmen, do not know exactly who to ask for certain information about the institution. Most often, they commit crimes unaware of them, but clearly written in the student handbook,” Kanjo revealed. 

“This generation, the Gen z, do not like reading, but everyone speaks with AI. We decided to bridge the gap by using the technology that this current generation is familiar with,” he added. 

He said they have also developed a solution that will automate generation of transcripts, and a model that will be able to do predictive analytics, where AI will be able to spot a student based on his or her scoring performance to see if they can score or not. 

Through this, he added, the administration will be able to intervene early and prevent dropout, but insisted that if only the problem is purely academic.

New dawn for farmers 

Three students of the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Asanga Sheikina, Eba Bokalli, and Ambanawah Brian, presented their project called SmartedgeAI. 

According to Asanga, SmartedgeAI, is a prediction system and agriculture monitoring system which helps the farmers who are far away to have information about the plants in their farm. 

This system, Asanga disclosed, takes pictures of their farm after every 15 minutes and determines if it has recorded a disease or not. 

She said farmers sometimes lack the resources to visit their farms frequently. Through this software, farmers can sit back at home and get alerts on their crops and avoid losses.  

Asanga expressed confidence that their project will change the narrative for farmers in the country. This is because, she said, her team used a database which encompasses a lot of different diseases. 

“Seventy percent of Cameroonians are farmers. This is where our food resource comes from. So, I believe that this application will be of great help to the farmers in Cameroon,” Asanga said. 

The last presentation was made by Fonshenteh Cydrale of the department of Cybersecurity. His project, named GNS3 for Network Design, is designed to interconnect YIBS campuses through a wireless network. 

Fonshenteh said they also designed a Security Integration System that will monitor their network. Through this, they are going to monitor all the activities on their network. 

 

 

YIBS lauds students for projects

Speaking at the end of the presentations, YIBS Board of Trustees President, Godfred Taku Acho, said he was impressed by the various projects. 

Taku Acho also seized the occasion to encourage them to continue working hard in order to succeed in their academic and professional journeys. 

“My impression is quite positive because the students and the lecturers have demonstrated that they have worked very well and that they do not end only in the classroom,” Taku noted. 

He added that: “What they have demonstrated is practical and that is what we need and everyone wants to see what they are able to do. I have a positive impression and encourage them to keep on and go further”.

Enter YIBS Vice Chancellor 

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the YIBS, Prof Maurice Kor Ndikontar, said the project presentation session was an occasion to show to the world that “we are different and that YIBS is apart from the others”.   

He said it shows their resolve to “innovate, trying to do something, something new”, stressing the need for more sessions for students. 

“We are very pleased that the students have shown us that they can do very great things, they are innovative. Here, we innovate, we train managers who can solve tomorrow’s problems,” Prof Kor Ndikontar said. 

He mentioned that: “You have seen that most of the things that they have demonstrated are things that you have not known before and therefore if well developed, these can become applications for tomorrow’s agriculture, management of the system”. 

He said through such sessions, students can solve the problems that “we will face in future”. It should be recalled that these projects stem from class lessons. 

The Dean of School of Computer Engineering, Dr Kimbi Eric Jam, said it was an opportunity to demonstrate what the students learn in the classroom. He said every course has a “practical implementation with real devices and software programmes.”
