ELECAM Board vows to reinforce citizens’ trust in electoral system.

The Electoral Board of elections management body, Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, has vowed to undertake multi-partner engagements to reinforce citizens’ confidence in the country’s electoral system.

The assurance was taken in Yaounde on Thursday, March 26.



This was during the First Ordinary Session of the Electoral Board of ELECAM. 

Speaking during the session, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe, said ELECAM will continue working with its partners such as the United Nations, UN; the International Organisation of La Francophonie, African Union, AU; the Commonwealth among others, to continue strengthening the electoral process.

He stated that ELECAM’s partnership with the UN for the 2025-2027 cycle will continue with efforts on strengthening capacity.

Dr Enow Abrams said the partnership remains vital for building staff capacity, dealing with electoral risk, enhancing communication, management.

The openness to collaborate, the Board Chairperson, noted, demonstrates ELECAM’s commitment to reinforce electoral integrity, institutional performance and strengthen citizen’s confidence.

He sounded that with the lessons of the 2025 presidential election, there will be a consolidation of innovations recorded in 2026.

The Board Chairperson restated that ELECAM remains committed to organise credible elections, promote social peace and contribute to the dynamism of Cameroon’s democracy. 

The meeting of Thursday, he declared, was in line with the Board’s statutory mission to oversee the workings of the Directorate General of Elections 

 

69,844 new potential voters enrolled

On the ongoing revision of the electoral register, Dr Enow Abrams disclosed that in the first quarter of 2026, provisional statistics indicate that ELECAM has enrolled 69,844 new potential voters. 

He said the number comprises 29,205 women and 40,639 men. He described the figures as encouraging and a demonstration of citizen’s renewed confidence in ELECAM.

 

Adjustment of electoral calendar

With lawmakers having adopted a bill extending the mandate of members of the National Assembly during the session on course, Dr Enow Abrams said the development also calls for the adjustment of the electoral calendar. 

Changes, he said, will be undertaken in respect of texts in force to guarantee transparency of the electoral process.

Other issues 

During yesterday’s meeting, the Electoral Board members examined references relating to a planned field trip programmed for April 4 to 18 to control the revision of the electoral register. 

They also assessed the implementation of the post-election recommendations to ensure compliance with ELECAM’s updated 2026-2027 strategic frame work.

There was also a review of the institution’s accounts of 2025, approval of ELECAM’s 2026 budget details and special appropriation of the Electoral Board. 

The Accounting Officer of the institution updated the Board on the management accounts and expenditure statement of the Electoral Board.
