Centre Regional Council donates medical equipment to Akonolinga District Hospital.

The handing over ceremony held on Friday, July 31, at the esplanade of the hospital. It unfolded under the watchful eyes of the Senior Division Officer of the Nyong and Mfoumou, Samuel Monebo. 

Local authorities, council officials, healthcare personnel, traditional rulers and cross section of the ppopualtion also lived the event. 

His Majesty Assogo Joseph said the initiative is part of the Centre Regional Council’s commitment to promote economic, social, and health development. 

Funded with resources transferred by the Ministry of Public Health, the project, said, aimed at modernising the hospital’s technical platform and improving healthcare services for thousands of residents in Akonolinga and surrounding communities.

The equipment package includes 67 different types of medical devices and hospital equipment. It was distributed across several units of the hospital, including emergency and reception services, general medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, maternity, laboratory services, physiotherapy, inpatient care, and the morgue.

Among the equipment supplied are patient monitors, oxygen concentrators, blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, wheelchairs, infusion stands, treatment trolleys, ultrasound machines, physiotherapy devices, electro-stimulators, exercise bicycles, infrared therapy lamps, walkers, electronic treadmills, rehabilitation equipment, and other essential tools designed to improve patient care.

Aside strengthening the hospital’s capacity to diagnose and treat patients, officials said the equipment will also to improve the working conditions of medical personnel and enhance patient comfort.

Ensure rigorous management, regular maintenance 

In his address, the Vice President of the Centre Regional Council explained that the equipment was carefully selected to address the need expressed by the hospital.

Assogo also used the opportunity to urge hospital authorities to ensure the responsible management and maintenance of the equipment.

“The equipment handed over today constitutes a heritage of great value. I invite you to ensure rigorous management, regular maintenance, and rational use so that it continues to serve the population effectively,” he said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Regional Council President, Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, to supporting development initiatives in Akonolinga and across the Centre Region.

He in synopsis cited several ongoing projects supported by the Council, including road rehabilitation, educational infrastructure studies, and the construction of a 22-kilowatt mini photovoltaic power plant equipped with a battery storage system for the hospital to improve the facility’s energy reliability and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.

Akonolinga mayor welcomes donation, demands more

The Mayor of Akonolinga, Pierre Georges Akamba Assembe, expressed gratitude to the Centre Regional Council for the continued support to the municipality and contribution to the welfare of populations.

The municipal authority said the new equipment will significantly improve healthcare services. He underscored the urgent need for additional investments, particularly the acquisition of an ambulance, and other infrastructure to meet growing healthcare demands.

Hospital management hails improved capacity

The Director of the Akonolinga District Hospital, Dr Biwole Onana Bertin Wilfried, saluted the initiative, explaining that the equipment were selected following consultations with heads of departments to ensure that the hospital’s most pressing needs were addressed.

He cited the acquisition of modern surgical equipment, including a new-generation anesthesia and ventilation system designed to improve patient safety during operations, the gynecology and maternity departments, he added also received advanced equipment that will contribute to better maternal and newborn care.

Dr Biwole Onana stressed on the importance of the physiotherapy equipment, noting that the hospital regularly manages patients suffering from long-term complications resulting from diseases such as Buruli ulcer and other devastating conditions.

“Rehabilitation is a critical component of patient care. These new physiotherapy facilities will enable us to provide more comprehensive treatment and improve the recovery process for many patients,” he said.
