Women's AFCON: Cameroon challenges Cabo Verde in final group game today.

The Indomitable Lionesses will lock horns with the competition debutants with eyes on securing all three points. 

The three-time runners who became the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals head to the game against the Cabo Verdeans as the top-ranked team in Group D with six points.

Victory over the Cabo Verdeans will fully confirm the team's status as Group D winners heading to the quarterfinals. 

Head coach, Valentine Nguele, told a pre-match press conference yesterday that the outfit will not be complacent against the Cabo Verdeans who lost both of first two matches in the tournament.

"Despite the fact that we are already qualified, our priorities remain the same. We respect every opponent. We are respect the flag of Cameroon," the trainer said.

Defender, Easter Mayo Kith, who accompanied the head coach at the press conference yesterday made a similar declaration. 

The Japan-based centre-back who has emerged as Cameroon's key defender in the ongoing tournament said the Indomitable Lionesses will go all out for victory in the match as they look to continue their winning run in their quest to conquer the continent.

"We want to win tomorrow because we every match in this tournament is very important for us," the 28-year-old said.

She added that: "No defense concedes goals intentionally. As a team, we are working continuously so that we can be able to improve both in terms of playing style and results".

Cameroon harvested six points in the first two group matches after defeating Mali and Ghana. 

If the Indomitable Lionesses finish first in Group D, the side will face the runner up of Group C in the quarterfinals where a victory will not only hand the selection a ticket to the semifinals but also earn the outfit a qualification ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup scheduled for Brazil.

Pending the final round of Group C matches, the Indomitable Lionesses who last reached the semifinals of the continental championship in 2018 in Ghana, were scheduled to one three Group C opponents: debutants Malawi, Zambia or Nigeria, in the quarterfinals.

Record 10-time champions and title holders, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, who have repeatedly denied the Indomitable Lionesses of a chance to get their hands on the winners trophy of the competition, eliminated Cameroon in the quarterfinals of the 2022 tournament.
