Cameroonian chef to challenge Guinness World Records cooking marathon.

Cameroonian chef and culinary content creator, Vanessa Oprah Neba Mambo, popularly known as Mommy Van, has announced that she has received official approval from Guinness World Records, GWR, to attempt the Longest Cooking Marathon by an Individual.

The announcement was made recently on her social media handle.

According to Mommy Van, her application has successfully met the stringent requirements established by Guinness World Records, authorising her to proceed with an official record attempt.

Although the date of the marathon is yet to be announced, preparations are said to be underway for what many say promises to be a physically and mentally demanding challenge requiring several consecutive days of continuous cooking.

According to sources, the record attempt is expected to test not only Mommy Van’s culinary skills but also her endurance, discipline and determination under closely monitored conditions, where every minute of cooking must comply with Guinness World Records guidelines

The Chef sees the challenge beyond personal achievement. She noted that it is expected to be another opportunity to showcase the country’s rich culinary heritage and creativity.

Reacting to the approval, Mommy Van shared a message with her followers on social media, describing the record attempt as the culmination of years spent promoting Cameroon through food.

“For many years now, you have welcomed me into your kitchen. Together, we have celebrated the beauty of Cameroonian cuisine one recipe, one meal, one story at a time,” she wrote.

On her journey, she explained that every cooking video, recipe and interaction with her audience had been preparing her for a much greater purpose.

According to the chef, cooking has always represented more than preparing meals. Rather, it has been a means of telling Cameroon’s story, preserving its cultural heritage and ensuring that every recipe shared with viewers carries a piece of the country to the rest of the world.

Announcing her Guinness World Records challenge, Mommy Van stressed that the initiative is not solely about setting a new global record.

“It is about showing the world that Cameroon has a story worth hearing, a culture worth celebrating and a cuisine worthy of the global stage,” she noted.

She also expressed appreciation to the thousands of supporters who have followed her journey over the years, thanking those who have watched her videos, tried her recipes, shared her content and believed in her dream, long before it became a reality.

According to her, the challenge is a collective national project. “The journey may begin with me but belongs to every Cameroonian,” she said.

Over the past few years, Africa has witnessed a growing trend of Guinness World Records attempts across diverse fields, with individuals seeking to celebrate their talents, while promoting their countries globally.

Known for her digital platform, MommyVan’s Kitchen, the chef has built a loyal following by promoting authentic Cameroonian recipes and demonstrating the richness of the country’s diverse cuisine.

Through her cooking videos, she has introduced audiences both within and beyond Cameroon to traditional dishes, local ingredients and culinary traditions that form an important part of the nation’s cultural identity.

Her announcement has already generated excitement across social media, where supporters have flooded comment sections with congratulatory messages and words of encouragement. Many have also expressed the wish to have the test hold in Cameroon, so they can rally support to assist her the best way they can.
