The Minister of Finance Minister, Louis Paul Motaze, and a Ukrainian delegation have discussed ways of strengthening cooperation in agricultural modernisation, financing and agro-industrial development.
The minister held talks with the delegation led by Davyd Hohiia, Second Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria, recently.

Hohiia was accompanied by Volodymyr Pereindenko and Yurii Kompaniiets.

Exchanges between officials centrered on the modernisation of Cameroon’s agricultural sector with special attention on financing mechanisms, experience sharing and opportunities for cooperation.

The two sides also explore measures that could strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector and support food production.

Minister Motaze used the talks to reiterate government’s commitment to supporting the transformation of agriculture. He expressed willingness to support efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation between both countries.

The ministry sees the sectors as important for economic growth, employment and food security.

Meantime, the Ukrainian delegation presented its country’s willingness to strengthen economic and commercial cooperation with Cameroon in several areas.

“Ukraine has a lot to share with Cameroonians, and we are ready to cooperate with everyone,” Hohiia said.

Revenue collection also discussed

Beyond agriculture, the two sides discussed cooperation in public finance and the mobilisation of government revenue. Jean Marie Aboganena, a communication expert who was part of the delegation, said Ukraine was proposing its technical and technological experience to support efforts to secure fiscal and customs revenue. He said some of the technologies could also be deployed in agriculture and border surveillance.

“The finance sector remains somewhat porous despite efforts to secure revenue generated by public services,” Aboganena said, adding that Ukraine has “technical and technological experience” that could support efforts to better secure fiscal and customs revenue.

According to Aboganena, Ukraine has also proposed sharing its experience in drone technology, which he said could be considered for border surveillance and agricultural activities.

Officials of finance ministry said the meeting reflected efforts by Cameroon and Ukraine to consolidate their partnership around projects in agriculture and other sectors.
