Yango Cameroon Supports Free Breast Cancer Screening for 460 Women in Partnership with the Welisane Foundation.

For the second consecutive year, Yango Cameroon, part of the global technology company Yango Group, has partnered with the Welisane Foundation's Pink October initiative to support breast cancer awareness and screening in Cameroon.

This year's activities provided free breast cancer screening to 460 women across two events held in Yaoundé and Douala.

As part of the partnership, Yango Cameroon made a financial contribution to the Welisane Foundation to support the cost of the screening activities and help meet the medical needs of women battling breast cancer.

This includes support for the Foundation's efforts to provide further care, such as radiotherapy, blood count tests, medication and nutritional assistance.

The first activity, the Pink Walk, took place on 17 October at Parcours Vita, Mont Fébé, Yaoundé, where 400 women received breast cancer screening. A further 60 women were screened during the Pink Brunch and Fundraiser held on 31 October in Douala.

The screenings at both events were conducted by Molbio Diagnostics using the iBreastExam. A doctor from Waspito also contributed to the awareness programme through an educational panel on breast cancer, discussing risk factors and preventive practices.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr Clovis Pilla, Country Manager of Yango Cameroon, said: "Breast cancer is an issue that affects many women and their families. We believe early detection can save lives, which is why it is important to support initiatives that make screening available to more women. We are glad that, through our partnership with the Welisane Foundation, 460 women had the opportunity to get screened. We were also able to extend support to women who are battling the disease. It is important for us to continue supporting initiatives like this, which make a real difference in our communities."

Yango equally extended the invitation to partner drivers who attended the Pink Brunch, where they received screening and took part in awareness activities.

For Dr Mrs Welisane Mokwe, Founder of the Welisane Foundation, the partnership reflects the importance of working together to make a difference.

"It was a powerful event, and we are grateful to partners like Yango who recognise the importance of women's health and take action to support it. This is the second consecutive year Yango has partnered with us, and we are honoured to continue working together to reach and support more women."

Yango Group has also supported initiatives focused on education and opportunities for young people in Cameroon. One example is the Technovation Challenge, a global programme that encourages girls to develop technology and entrepreneurship skills.

With Yango Group's support, 116 girls in Cameroon developed app prototypes with guidance from mentors, as highlighted in the 2024 Yango Group Impact Report.
