Ekondo-Titi: Police invades funeral ground, disrupts burial of former SDF District Chairman.

The SDF official said the imminent legal battle follows what he has described as a blatant violation of the rights of mourners and a bereaved family.

The interim police boss in Ekondo-Titi is said to have disrupted the funeral service of the pioneer District Chairman of the SDF in the town. 

John Kona Makia is alleging that Assistant Superintendent of Police, Esong Ebanga William, who is of Public Security in Ekondo-Titi on an interim basis, stormed the funeral ceremony of the late SDF pioneer District Chairman, Arnold Motiti Wilfred, on August 1, 2026.

According to the complaint, the police officer, accompanied by other individuals, reportedly destroyed the party's banner, seized the SDF flag, overturned food and drinks prepared for mourners, and disrupted the funeral ceremony.

In a complaint, seen by The Guardian Post, the SDF official said the officer threatened, harassed and intimidated mourners, allegedly warning that anyone who resisted would be "gunned down". 

The incident reportedly caused panic among mourners and forced the ceremony to end prematurely. 

In the complaint, he also accuses the officer of invasion, conversion and destruction of property, and calls on the SDF leadership to pursue the matter, so that justice can take it course. 

Copies of the complaint were also addressed to the party's Secretary General and a human rights organisation in Buea. 

The SDF Regional Chairperson has called on the police officer, who, he said, acted “alone without the authority of his hierarchy,” to return all the property of the SDF in his keeping.
