MINAT boss, CAR counterpart discuss bilateral cooperation.

Both personalities focused on key issues affecting the two neighbouring countries, particularly border security, regional stability, local governance and socio-economic integration. 

They also reviewed measures to improve the management of border areas, strengthen collaboration between administrative and security authorities to combat cross-border crime, and address challenges linked to irregular migration to guarantee peace and stability.

Discussions also focused on the strong socio-economic links that unite communities on both sides of the border, preserving the free movement of people and goods in accordance with national laws and regional commitments.

They also explored ways to boost trade, encourage decentralised cooperation and support development initiatives capable of improving living conditions in border communities.

The ministers reiterated their shared commitment to promoting peace, security, solidarity and sustainable development through permanent consultation and strengthened institutional cooperation.

Minister Bruno Yapande praised efforts undertaken by Presidents Paul Biya and Faustin-Archange Touadéra to maintain harmonious relations between the two nations.

“We have long received guidance from our two presidents to ensure that our borders function properly, are well managed and that demarcation lines are respected,” he stated.

The CAR minister said “both States must be able to operate freely while maintaining proper control over the movement of goods and people”.

He added that several bilateral meetings have already been held within the framework of the Cameroon-CAR ad hoc commission, with the next expected in Yaounde once the necessary administrative procedures are completed.

Yapande also saluted the quality of relations between the two countries, describing Cameroon as a pillar of stability and democratic governance in the sub-region.

“Our relations are stable and have reached a new dimension. Cameroon has always been a democratic model, not only for Central Africa but for Africa and the world. We are aware that stability in Central Africa stems largely from Cameroon,” the minister said.

He further commended Minister Atanga Nji for his role in safeguarding democratic processes in Cameroon, noting that experiences from Cameroon had inspired reforms and governance practices in CAR.

“Many of the achievements recorded in the Central African Republic draw inspiration from Cameroon. Economically, socially, politically, and humanitarianly, our countries are closely linked. We believe Cameroon will continue to serve as a guide, a democratic foundation, and a bridge toward genuine development in the Central African Republic,” he remarked.
